Time once again for our Monday morning game show here on our wildly popular Open Mike blog and interactive extravaganza. It’s called “Studs and Duds” and it’s your chance to sound off and identify the best and worst sports performances of the weekend and beyond.

You know the drill. I’ll give you a couple of quick takes from the week and then you vote in the polls at the end of this blog.

My early favorite for Studs of the Week are Dwight Howard and Stan Van Gundy for their heart-to-heart meeting in which Dwight told Stan that his negativity was having an adverse effect on the team. Stan agreed and the Magic have been playing looser and freer every since.

Dud of the Week? I have to go with Ann Bowden, the wife of Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden whose arrogant comments in USA Today created yet another firestorm around her embattled husband. Ann’s comments:   “You know, we don’t need the university as much as they need us — as much as they need him and his connections and reputation and everything,” she said. ”If they want to pull that trick (and force Bobby to retire), we’ll just shake the dirt off our feet and go to Europe or go on a long cruise or something. They’ll have to fire him for him not to go another year … If they’ve got guts enough to do it, let them do it.”

By the way, you voted for UCF quarterback Brett Hodges as your Stud last week when Hodges completed 20-of-25 passes to lead the Knights to a historic victory over a ranked team. Your Dud was UCF’s homecoming crowd, which was ultra-disappointing considering the Knights were taking on Heisman-contending quarterback Case Keenum and an exciting Houston team.

Who will win the coveted and not-so-coveted prizes this week?

  Happy voting.
